Watercolor

Poetry

After thirty years teaching writing and literature in higher education, I lived inside language, helping others find their voice. When I retired in 2025, I picked up a brush. What surprised me was how little distance there is between words and watercolor: the same instinct that reaches for the right word reaches for the right wash of color.

I am a painter and poet living in Dayton, Ohio. My work explores beauty and truth — sometimes quiet, sometimes difficult. Watercolor and poetry ask the same thing of me: stillness, attention, and a willingness to let something true emerge.

The poems voice what isn’t visible in the paintings.
