Designed in the Tudor Revival style and completed in 1928, Edwin D. Smith Elementary School was thoughtfully created to reflect the character of the surrounding Oakwood neighborhood. Its warm brick, welcoming arches, and distinctive architecture have made it a cherished part of the community for generations of students and families.
I was especially drawn to the glow of the ginkgo trees framing the building, as the golden canopy seemed to embrace the school with warmth and light. Painting places as they are remembered, I hope to preserve the warmth, beauty, and quiet sense of place that make them meaningful.
Original watercolor on archival paper. 5 × 7 inches.
